Councilman Webb Describes FAA Letter re LGB As "Letter of Support...Stating Our Ordinance Is Fair and Reasonable"

(May 6, 2003) -- 8th district Councilman Rob Webb, whose Bixby Knoll and California Heights constituents are among the worst impacted by LB Airport, has described a letter from the Federal Aviation Administration (previously reported and posted verbatim on LBReport.com) as a "letter of support...stating our [Airport] ordinance is fair and reasonable."

We post a transcript below of Councilman Webb's salient comments made during "new business" at the May 6, 2003 City Council meeting:

...I did want to get an opportunity to show the love here a little bit for our City Attorney's office and congratulate them for a job well done with the announcement we had last Friday [May 2] of the not only settlement of some of the challenges we've had to our local Long Beach Airport ordinance, but that we have now received a letter of support, stating that our ordinance is fair and reasonable from the FAA...

...I think it's interesting. I have now watched and read a lot of Monday morning quarterback decisions based on what that really means. But it is not the end-all in this whole thing, but it is a good tool in our tool bag to have the FAA say that indeed the local ordinance [is] fair and reasonable, and I think it is about as good as you could ever get from a bunch of bureaucrats and lawyers gettin' together to draft a letter...
