Press-Telegram Endorses Rae Gabelich for 8th district Council

(May 9, 2004) -- In an editorial in its Sunday, May 9 edition, the Long Beach Press-Telegram has endorsed Rae Gabelich for the 8th district City Council seat held by incumbent Rob Webb.

Ms. Gabelich came within fewer than 300 votes of Webb in the April 13 election in the 8th Council district. The two now face a June 8 runoff.

As previously reported by LBReport.com, Ms. Gabelich has been endorsed in the runoff by the LB Police Officers Association (which helped unseat 4th district Council incumbent Dennis Carroll in April) and by Terry Jensen, who finished third in the 8th district Council race in April.

To our knowledge, LBReport.com was the only LB media outlet to support Ms. Gabelich in April.

At that time, the Press-Telegram endorsed Mr. Jensen; the LB Business Journal endorsed Webb...and Mayor Beverly O'Neill urged the reelection of all Council incumbents as did the LB Area Chamber of Commerce.
