We Post MTV Release Announcing Plans To Telecast Part Of "Beach House" Summer Shows From LB

(May 18, 2004) -- LBReport.com posts below the salient text of a press release dated April 30 in which the MTV network announced it will telecast part of its annual "Beach House" summer shows from Long Beach.

LBReport.com was the first LB media outlet to report that MTV's Beach House -- an annual summer television series seen nationwide on the NY-based music television network -- is planning to originate in part from the Belmont Shore beachfront.

The publicity coup of having a nationally telecast MTV series originate from LB's beachfront -- showcasing the city as a hip, cool summer location for millions of demographically desirable viewers -- came to light after a snafu in which a number of area residents say they were initially kept in the dark by City Hall, then got misinformation from someone.

The misinformation (which City Hall says it didn't disseminate) was corrected via a May 11 mass-mailed letter to Belmont Shore and Peninsula area residents from LB City Hall's chief of Special Events and Filming, detailing aspects of the TV production and conditions surrounding them. The letters began arriving in residents' mailboxes on May 14 and a copy was obtained by LBReport.com which broke the story.

Prior to LBReport.com's coverage, on May 13 the president of the Alamitos Bay Beach Preservation Group sent a letter City Hall, critical of LB officialdom's handling of the permit process for the "Beach House" production. Among other things, the letter urged that during the production period, parking restrictions be implemented for Peninsula residents and other LB laws enforced.

MTV TAKES AN RV ON THE ROAD AND ROLLS OUT A FULL NEW SLATE OF SUMMER PROGRAMMING

Santa Monica, CA, April 30, 2004 - MTV: Music Television has announced that the channel will be taking its annual summer programming on the road in a super pimped-out RV and using it as the summer long backdrop for MTV's Beach House: Summer On The Run programming. The RV will start its journey at the shores of the Pacific Ocean in Long Beach, CA, make its way up north to Lake Tahoe, NV and end back east at Jones Beach, NY. In addition to new episodes of viewers' favorites, such as "TRL," "Direct Effect," "MTV Hits," "Boiling Points" and "Room Raiders," MTV is premiering two brand new summer series "Your Face or Mine?" and "Wanna Come Inside?," as well as summer specials, including "Spankin' New Presents: Sounds of Summer Week."

"We have never taken MTV's Beach House on the road and are very excited to bring our summer programming to several different locales," said Tony DiBari, Vice President, Production, MTV. "In addition to our 'Summer On The Run' programming, we are dedicated to keeping the channel fresh with a variety of brand new series as well as new episodes of returning favorites all summer long."

MTV VJ's Quddus Phillippe, Damien Fahey, Vanessa Minnillo, Hilarie Burton and LaLa Vasquez kick off the summer programming on Monday, May 31st in Long Beach, CA, with a week long TRL dedicated to "Spankin' New Presents: Sounds of Summer Week" featuring live performances by Nelly and Murphy Lee, New Found Glory, Ashlee Simpson and more.

Viewers will be able to log onto MTV.com to view last years Summer Beach House Highlights prior to our summer launch on May 31st. Users will also be able to enter "MTV's Summer Music Trivia Sweepstakes 2004" and have an opportunity to answer a trivia question on a daily basis with a chance to win a trip to the Beach House when it wraps up the summer in Jones Beach, NY. MTV.com will also name the top rock 'n roll destinations in the country to inspire our audience to hit the road this summer.

Finally, the website will be the place to come for ongoing photo and video highlights of MTV's summer shows all summer long and mtv.com will have a summer-themed custom radio station programmed with all the best summer hits.

Viwers of "MTV"s Beach House: Summer on the Run" will also get a chance to win a trip to the Beach House by purchasing specially marked packs of Starburst and a new winner will be announced on MTV each week.

MTV's past beach house destinations have ranged from East Quogue, NY, in the Hamptons, Malibu, CA, and Seaside Heights, NJ, to Paradise Island, Bahamas, and Rancho Palos Verdes, CA...
