Rose Park Area Pursuit Ends As Cops Cuff Suspect, Area 7th/Orizaba-Gladys

(May 1, 2004) -- For a third night in a row, residents in the general vicinity of 7th St. and Orizaba Ave. found themselves in the midst of police activity (unrelated to shootings on April 29 and 30) as a driver failed to yield, sparking a high speed chase which was about to be called off when the suspect jumped out of the car. LBPD swiftly set up a perimeter and within minutes took the suspect into custody at about 8:43 p.m.

Details are sketchy as we post, but LBPD Public Information Officer Sgt. Dave Marander indicates a subsequent search of the suspect vehicle recovered narcotics.

Two apparently unrelated events brought police activity to the area for the previous two nights: on April 30, a shooting took place in the area of 7th St. and St. Louis Ave...and on April 29, a shooting occurred in the area of 7th St. near Orizaba Ave. Details on both these events are pending...and we have no official information at this point indicating whether the two shootings are related.

    Further to follow as newsworthy.
