Horrifying Crash, Miraculous Human Outcome: Vehicle Crashes Thru Home Where Stearns Ends At Stevely (East of Studebaker); Miraculously, Two People In Home Basically Uninjured; Driver OK; Home Red-Tagged Pending Inspection
(May 18, 2005) -- In a horrifying crash with serious property consequences but a near miraculous human outcome, a vehicle crashed into a home where Stearns St. ends at Stevely Drive (east of Studebaker), travelling completely through the structure and landing nose down in a drained backyard pool.

Here's how the vehicle looked after being removed.
LBFD Public Information Officer Capt. Jim Arvizu told LBReport.com that although the older woman, Verna Kyle, was nearly in the vehicle's path, she appeared to have been brushed aside as the vehicle crashed through the structure. Ms. Kyle was taken to a hospital but at midmorning appeared to be basically OK with relatively minor cuts and bruises, Capt. Arvizu said.
"It sounded like an explosion and felt like an earthquake," said Marie Wolfe, the older woman's daughter, who was in the kitchen when the crash occurred. Although shaken up, she appeared amazingly composed considering what had just taken place.

A doggie on the premises was slightly injured and taken to a vet.
Stearns St. in the El Dorado Park South neighborhood ends due to the San Gabriel river and turns southbound, becoming Stevely Ave.
Instead of bearing right onto Stevely, the vehicle kept going, knocking over some protective posts that had been installed before plowing into the structure and doing significant property damage.
Authorities red-tagged the house until a full inspection can be done.
The protective posts are also seen in this photo.
Ms. Wolfe said the house had been struck by cars before, perhaps six to eight times over a period spanning 30-40 years (and she noted this was admittedly a very rough estimate).
LBPD, LBFD and multiple media outlets (including LBReport.com) were on scene.
In photo right, an ABC7 Eyewitness News reporter gets the story from LBFD PIO Capt. Arvizu.
Concerned neighbors gathered in the area.
The daughter/granddaughter of the home's occupants was on scene, shaken by what had occurred but relieved that her loved ones are apparently OK.
