(May 8, 2007) -- Valerie McDonald, daughter of the late Congresswoman Juanita Millender-McDonald (D., Carson-LB) confirmed today (May 8), after LBReport.com first reported a day earlier on our front page (www.lbreport.com), that she's entering the race to succeed her mother in Congress.
So you didn't seek nomination papers to consider a run or to decide later whether you might run? "No, I'm in it," she reiterated without any equivocation that we could detect in her voice.
She indicated her platform and plans are coming soon...and sounded upbeat about the race.
Prospective candidates for the now vacant office are required to collect and file 40-60 nominating signatures (minimum 40 valid registered voters supporting their candidacy) on or before May 14.
Among those who've announced they're seeking the House seat are Assemblywoman (former 6th district Councilwoman) Laura Richardson and State Senator (former Assemblywoman and Councilwoman) Jenny Oropeza.
