(May 17, 2007, updated text) -- Long Beach will get some southland radio attention on Friday May 18 as KABC Talkradio AM 790 broadcasts several of the station's shows from L.A. County's second largest city.
KABC morning host Doug McIntyre ("McIntyre in the Morning") will broadcast from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. from the Queen Mary and evening host Al Rantel will do his 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. show from the Aquarium of the Pacific.
At 12:15 p.m., Mr. Rantel will take part in a "SPEED Networking" event at Smooth's Sports Grille, 144 Pine Ave. KABC.com promises, "You'll meet up to 75 new business contacts in just 45 minutes, then enjoy lunch while hearing from several notable speakers, including Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster." KABC.com says the cost per person for Networking event is $25 which includes admission, lunch, tax and tip; space is limited; call Smooth's for reservations/RSVP: (562) 437-7700.
On Thursday (May 17), KABC was airing promos for Friday's events, including the Networking event with mentions of Smooth's owner John Morris.
Beer & Politics (a monthly event sponsored by the LB Junior Chamber of Commerce) indicates in an email to LBReport.com, that it's sponsored some guests for Mr. Rantel's evening program from the Aquarium including State Senator Alan Lowenthal (D., LB-SP-PV) and Comedian Suzanne Westenhoefer, Grand Marshal of the Long Beach Pride Parade.
"Senator Lowenthal will be taking questions from attendees following his on-air interview," says Michael Clements, founder of Beer & Politics.
(Beer & Politics is held the last Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. at Gallagher's Pub & Grill, 2751 E. Broadway in LB).
KABC's Friday events, billed as a "Salute to Long Beach," are part of the station's "All Star Talk Tour 2007." In April, the KABC focused on southbay cities, originating its morning show from an El Segundo Starbucks and its evening show from a Manhattan Beach hotel.
