(May 15, 2007) -- Following remarks giving a stark portrayal of their life and death struggle, LBPD Police Chief Anthony Batts awarded Purple Hearts to Officers Roy Wade, Jr. at LBPD's annual Awards Ceremony on May 15.
Over 1,000 people filling the Grand Ballroom of LB's Convention Center rose in a standing ovation as the two officers, critically wounded in a horrifying Dec. 22 downtown shooting, strode on stage alongside their spouses.

LB officials, VIPs and corporate sponsors joined grassroots support groups in thanking LB police officers and citizens recognized for heroism, selfless acts and community service over the past year.

Among multiple citizens acknowledged for their roles were the doctors and medical staff at LB Memorial Hospital (including Gracie Dinkins, Daniel Bethencourt and Abraham Rayhaunat) who saved the lives of Officers Yap and Wade, Jr.
Elsa Ramon and John Gregory of ABC7 Eyewitness News served as Guest Narrators and received framed recognitions for their services.
