(May 7, 2008) -- As first reported by LBReport.com at midday today (May 7), LB Airport Director Christine Andersen is leaving to accept the position of Public Works Director for the City of Santa Barbara.
Santa Barbara City Administrator Jim Armstrong says in a Santa Barbara City Hall release, "This is an important appointment for the city and I'm pleased to have found a highly qualified public works professional with an impressive track record."
Ms. Anderson, who holds a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois, was hired as LB Public Works Director in 2003 by now-former City Manager Jerry Miller. She was named Airport Director in Sept. 2007 by City Manager Pat West, reporting directly to him.
In a LB City Hall release issued today (May 7), City Manager Pat West stated, "I wish to personally thank Christine for her hard work and dedication to the City of Long Beach. During her time here she oversaw extremely complex and challenging issues at the Long Beach Airport, and throughout the Department of Public Works. We all wish her the best as she begins her new chapter."
Ms. Andersen said in the LB City Hall release, "It has been a terrific experience working in Long Beach, and I’ll always appreciate the staff’s commitment to public service, especially because the quality of employees is truly outstanding. "I'm going to miss all the connections I've made here as I look forward to new adventures in Santa Barbara."
Ms. Andersen previously served in Boulder, Colorado as Acting City Manager for a year and as Deputy City Manager for Environmental Services for two years...and in Eugene Oregon as Public Works Director for sixteen years.
