Woman Parking Car in Belmont Shore Neighborhood Confronted By Armed Man Fri Nite; He Demands Money, Begins Driving Woman To An ATM...And Woman Escapes |

(May 23, 2009, updated May 26) -- LBPD says a woman parking her car in a Belmont Shore neighborhood on Friday night (May 22) found herself confronted by an armed man who demanded money and began driving her to an ATM...but the woman managed to escape and flee without losing any money or sustaining any physical injuries. LBPD Public Information Officer Nancy Pratt says that at about 9:45 p.m. on May 22, a 27 year-old woman was parking her car in the 100 block of Roswell Ave. when she was approached by an armed man who allegedly demanded money. [May 26 update: The man was armed with a sharp object He is described as possibly 30-40 years old (no further suspect description at this time). [end update] When the woman said she didn't have any money, the armed man allegedly insisted they get back in her vehicle and drive to an ATM. The armed man got into the driver's seat with his victim riding alone...and about a block later in the 100 block of Belmont Ave., the woman managed to get out of the car and fled on foot. The armed man also fled on foot, (leaving the victim's car behind). LBPD is now looking for the suspect, wanted on kidnapping and robbery charges. LBPD says the suspect is only described for now as a male Black. LBPD asks anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in that area on Friday night to call its Robbery detail at (562) 570-7464. LBPD PIO Pratt reminded residents always to be aware of their surroundings and what's going on around them, especially as summertime approaches with more opportunities to be outside during evening hours.
