  • (May 3, 2009) -- LBReport.com provides photo coverage below of crime scene areas where James Neal Tuggle, 29, of LB allegedly opened fire on LB police officers in the predawn hours of May 3. Some of the photos below were published as part of our initial coverage of the story.

The first location was in the 1100 block of Chestnut Ave. The high rise in the distance is LB City Hall...about a mile due south.

Each yellow marker is a location where evidence of some kind was found. These were just north of the residence location.

This view below is a bit further south, approaching the stairway to the location in the 1100 block of Chestnut Ave.

A handgun is visible in the street behind the south-facing police unit.

    Below is a zoom-in view.

The scene in front of the location in the 1100 block of Chestnut Ave. LBPD unit's passenger window is shattered. Windows in a parked vehicle (not otherwise involved in the events) were also shattered.

After allegedly ambushing officers at this location, police say the suspect fled on foot to a location on 12th St. (about half a block north). At that location, he allegedly opened fire on a responding/assisting LBPD police unit.

Bullet holes are visible in police car's windshied and on the car frame. Yellow markers indicate both places.

This was the view from the officer's perspective from inside the arriving police car.

Below a yellow evidence marker is visible near the white fence. Evidence will help determine exactly where the shooter was in the vicinity of that fence.

The crime scene was preserved awaiting arrival of the L.A. County Coroner. Photo below is looking southward on Cedar Ave. from Anaheim St. The deceased suspect was behind the tarpoulin.

North and West LBPD division units (below) were visible on Anaheim St. at about 10:00 a.m.
