(May 8, 2012) -- LBReport.com has confirmed that the LB Firefighters Memorial Association -- which for 54 years presented July 4th fireworks at ELB's Veterans Stadium (Clark Ave. @ Conant St. -- won't be holding the event this year. (Photo: July 4, 2008)

"The fireworks show at Vets Stadium has been cancelled," LBFD Capt. Rich Brandt said in an email.

The decision apparently stemmed from falling short of fundraising goals [likely a combination of the economic downturn and many people choosing to watch from neighborhoods instead of paying, thereby shortchanging the Firefighters Memorial Association. (Photo: July 4, 2008)

Fireworks are still scheduled for area near the Queen Mary (which brings a large crowd downtown). There has historically also been a fireworks display in Lakewood (not far from ELB's Vets Stadium).

News of the Firefighters Memorial Association's decision to end its July 4th fireworks display was first reported this morning (May 8) by Tim Grobaty in PressTelegram.com.
