At early evening, LBPD issued the release below:

[LBPD release text] The preliminary investigation revealed that 21-year-old Mario Palafox of Bellflower was driving a 1992 Lexus westbound on Carson Street and [allegedly] at a high rate of speed, when he collided with three vehicles stopped in the left turn bay of westbound Carson Street. The suspect vehicle first collided with a 1985 Toyota Supra, forcing that vehicle forward into a 2005 Scion TC, and that vehicle into a 2007 Ford Mustang. The force of the collision caused major damage to the Toyota, and the female driver was pronounced deceased at the scene from injuries sustained by the impact. She has been identified as 47-year-old Elane Logay of Long Beach.

Suspect Palafox [allegedly] fled from the scene on foot after the collision, and was located on the Long Beach City College campus, and was subsequently arrested for vehicular homicide, felony hit and run, and unlicensed driver. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of moderate injuries.

The driver of the Scion was transported to a local hospital with non life threating injuries, while the driver of the Mustang was released at the scene. It is unknown if any of the parties involved are students at Long Beach City College.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Long Beach Police Department Collision Investigations Detective David Lauro at (562) 570-7355.

(May 15, 2013) -- LBPD confirms that a woman (adult) was killed and a man (adult) was arrested following a mid-morning four vehicle crash today (May 15) on Carson St. just east of Clark Ave. that LBPD alleges was a "hit and run."

The driver of a white Lexus allegedly fled the scene on foot following the accident which occurred at roughly 11:15 a.m.

Long Beach Fire Dept. Public Information Officer Will Nash says the woman driving the white Supra was pronounced dead on arrival. Two victims in the white Scion were transported to a nearby hospital on basic life support with non-life threatening injuries, Nash said.

Victor Munoz, 21, a former LBCC student who lives in the area, said he pulled a man and a woman out of the Scion but when he went back to the Supra, he was unable to pull the woman from the car because the door wouldn't budge.

"I tried to break the glass on the Supra but couldn't and then I saw the body just lying there. I just feel terrible," Munoz said.

Police blocked off area streets to conduct their investigation.
