(May 5, 2015) -- LBREPORT.com carried LIVE and now provides EXTENDED VIDEO ON-DEMAND of today's (May 5) LBPD-LBFD Memorial outside City Hall, an annual solemn ceremony honoring police officers and firefighters who gave their lives serving the people of Long Beach.

Mayor Robert Garcia didn't attend...and his office didn't send any individual to deliver remarks in his absence. Instead, Garcia flew to Washington, D.C. to attend a Cinco de Mayo reception for Latino elected officials staged annually by President Barack Obama.

A press release by Mayor Garcia's office doesn't mention the Cinco de Mayo substance of the trip. Instead, it tells recipients that Garcia is in Washington, D.C. "at the invitation of the President for a reception tonight at the White House with mayors, members of Congress, and cabinet secretaries" and says he "will also update administration on City’s progress on President's initiative to end veteran homelessness."

[As to the actual scheduled substance of the White House event, LBREPORT.com provides the White House website schedule, screen saved below.]

The only Councilmember visible was newly elected 4th dstrict Councilman Daryl Supernaw, elected April 14, officially sworn into office weeks ago, ceremonial swearing-in tonight, who is the son of a former Long Beach Firefighter.
