(May 13, 2016, 8:15 a.m.) -- Saturday It's a free self-guided tour from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, showcasing the LB Water Dept.'s turf removal program that offers residents $2.50 per square foot, for up to a thousand square feet, to replace their front lawn with drought tolerant California-native plants. This year's tour features thirty newly transformed gardens.
Homeowners at multiple locations will be available to talk about how they designed, installed and maintain their Lawn-to-Garden projects. "Over the last six years more than 2,600 Lawn-to-Garden transformations have taken place in Long Beach creating over two million square feet of habitat for birds, butterflies and other wildlife, and collectively conserving about 150 million gallons of water," says a LB Water Dept. release.
