(May 28, 2016, 2:40 p.m.) -- Neighborhoods USA (NUSA), a nationwide group highlighting achievements in neighborhoods across the country -- has awarded the Long Beach City Prosecutor's office-implemented Community Service Worker Program the group's highest award in the category of "Best Neighborhood Program/Physical Revitalization" at NUSA's 41st annual conference, held this year in Memphis.
"In Long Beach, Calif, neighborhood groups and non-profit organizations get more done in less time with the help from the city's Community Service Worker program, implemented by the Long Beach City Prosecutor's Office," NUSA wrote in describing LB's CSW program. In addition, LB's Jerry Caligiuri (photo left below), a longtime advocate for LB neighborhoods and former senior field deputy to former Councilman James Johnson, also traveled to the "birthplace of the Blues and jewel of the Mississippi" where he was elected to NUSA's governing board.

...and learned at this afternoon's closing awards luncheon (May 28) that they had won NUSA's highest award for "Best Neighborhood Group Program" in the category of physical revitalization. Ft. Lauderdale won the Best Neighborhood Group Program award in the category of social revitalization for its "Show Up, Step Up, Stand Out Inter-generational Youth Leadership Program. Downtown Long Beach Associates' "Place-Making Grant Program" was a finalist (after 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners) in the Best Neighborhood Program / Physical Revitalization category.
