  • Nov. 6 Murder (discovered), 2000 block Lime
  • Nov. 7 Murder, 1700 block Chestnut

(November 9, 2001) -- LBPD reports two recent murders:

    2000 block Lime Ave.

Police say that on Nov. 6 at roughly 7:20 p.m., an adult man was shot and killed in a garage of a residence in the 2000 block of Lime Ave. in the 6th Council district.

Four men were inside the garage when an unknown assailant entered the garage through a doorway and opened and shot 40 year old Michael Johnson in the upper torso. LBFD paramedics transported him to a local hospital where he died.

Police say the suspect fled the scene; it's unclear if he was on foot or drove in a vehicle; the motive for the shooting is unknown.

    1700 block Chestnut Ave.

Police say that on November 7 at about 9:20 p.m., they responded to the 1700 block of Chestnut Ave. in the 1st Council district, regarding the well being of a resident.

Officers found a male African-American in his early 20's deceased inside the residence. Police say "it was apparent that the victim's body had received blunt force trauma."

There is no suspect description available and the motive is not presently known.

Police ask anyone with information about either of these crimes to call Homicide Detectives Richard Conant or Bob Erickson at (562) 570-7244.
