(Nov. 26, 2003) -- An ELB business is helping brighten Thanksgiving for about two dozen needy LB families, providing food packages that will provide a holiday meal.
Sonic Excellence on Village Rd. near Lakewood Blvd. and Carson St. says they've done this for Thanksgiving for several years...and in a few weeks they'll do it again for Christmas.
Business owner Al Espinoza says his employees volunteer for the task...and on Nov. 26, we saw workers filling and double-checking food boxes (loading them up with potatoes and other fixings; ham and turkey arrived later).
We're told the boxes are taken to the LB Dept. of Health and Human Services which gets them to the needy families.
Mr. Espinoza told LBReport.com, "We've been fortunate to have some level of success in our business and since we know there are LB families in need, we decided to do this for Thanksgiving and Christmas."
Mr. Espinoza says Sonic Excellence, a commercial audio and video company that handles installations for businesses in CA and nationally, started assembling holiday food packages for Thanksgiving and Christmas about four years ago. He says it costs him about $1,000 per holiday...and no, a tax benefit isn't the reason.
"The tax benefit really is small," Mr. Espinoza said, adding "It's my feeling that as a LB company and business, we wanted to help families in our area. We want those families to know others care about them."
