(Nov. 9, 2005, updated text) -- LBPD has announced it has a suspect in custody in connection with a Wrigley-area homicide this morning (Nov. 9).
This development updates a story first reported earlier today by LBReport.com.
LBPD Public Information Officer Sgt. David Cannan says that at about 5:30 a.m. on Nov. 9, LBPD responded to the 2300 block of Cedar Ave. regarding an auto burglary and found a suspect inside a car. Officers arrested him...and noticed he had blood on him.
At about 6:00 a.m., LBPD responded to a separate call ("unknown trouble") in the 100 block of E. Eagle St. -- between 23d and Burnett Sts. near Pine Ave. -- and found a man stabbed multiple times. The victim, now identified by police as Warren Jackson, 42, of LB was transported to a hospital where he died of his injuries.
Yes, officers realized that the two locations are in the same vicinity and investigators went to work...and now believe the auto burglary suspect was involved in the homicide. The suspect, Joe Neza, 38, of San Pedro, has been booked in connection with the homicide.
Anyone with information regarding these events is asked to contact LBPD Homicide Detective Dave Rios at (562) 570-7244.
