(November 17, 2005) -- LB Vice Mayor/5th district Councilmember Jackie Kell has told LBReport.com that she is scheduling an item for the next City Council meeting following the Nov. 22 meeting to extend the public comment period to 60 days (up from 45 days) on the draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) regarding proposed expansion of the Airport's permanent terminal area facilities.
The 45 day minimum comment period scheduled by staff had been criticized by some activists for falling during the holiday period (and ending on December 22).
"I have asked that an item extending the comment period to sixty days be placed on the first Council agenda following our upcoming meeting," Vice Mayor Kell told LBReport.com. "I don't want people feeling that they didn't have an opportunity to speak their minds. With the holiday season and everything people have to attend to, I feel in fairness we want to make sure that everyone can contribute and gives us their input," she said.
The draft EIR and associated information are posted on City Hall's LB Airport webpages at: "Airport Terminal Area Improvements Project Draft EIR".
