(Nov. 10, 2005, updated Nov. 11) -- LBReport.com has learned that the LB Police Officers Association is endorsing retired So. Cal Edison President Bob Foster for Mayor.
An LBPOA public announcement has not yet been issued but we deduce the development from a statement emailed by the Mayoral campaign of Councilman Frank Colonna and a comment we then sought from retired Councilman Doug Drummond. Both men were apparently contacted by LBPOA today and informed of the group's decision as a courtesy prior to an official announcement.
Councilman Colonna's campaign emailed LBReport.com: "I will continue to proudly support our Police Union and look forward to working with them when I become Mayor. The Union did not support Mayor O'Neill in the last election, and she won in a landslide."
Retired Councilman Drummond, who is a past president of the LBPOA, told LBReport.com, "I have the highest regard for the men and women of the Long Beach Police Dept."
[updated] Bob Foster's campaign manager, Mark Taylor, told LBReport.com, "Bob is looking forward to Tuesday's announcement."
