(Nov. 10, 2005) -- LBPD and a number of area agencies conducted an anti-truancy sweep on November 9, detaining 120 minors who were not in school...and were in violation of LB's local daytime loitering ordinance.
LBPD says in a written release that roughly 70 officers from involved agencies (see below) "worked throughout Long Beach locating minors under the age of 18 who were in violation of the local daytime loitering ordinance. Minors may not be loitering in public between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. when they have scheduled classes. Officers found 120 minors in violation and they were all cited and taken to the [LBUSD] Truancy Center [3090 E. 29th St.] where they were released to a parent or guardian."
The agencies involved included LBPD, LBUSD, L.A. County Sheriff's Dept., Paramount & Transit Brueau, Compton School District PD, Signal Hill PD, CSULB Police, L.A. County Probation and Dept. of Children's Services.
