(Nov. 9, 2006) -- As dawn breaks today (Nov. 9), LBPD is trying to locate the parents or guardian of a child about two years old, found by officers sleeping in a car near the Aquarium of the Pacific on Wednesday night Nov. 8.
LBPD Public Information Officer David Cannan says that at about 9:00 p.m. November 8, officers were flagged down at a parking lot near the Aquarium and found the baby girl sleeping in a car seat. She'd been there for at least a half hour when the police arrived...and LBPD was on scene for about four hours more (searching for the parents, doing an investigation)...and still no parent or guardian showed up (and still hasn't).
The baby girl is in good health and in protective custody (County Dept. of Childrens' Services). She appears to be of mixed race (Hispanic and/or African/American)..
LBPD has two immediate questions: Was the child abandoned? And if she wasn't, are the parents OK (did something happen to them at the hands of another)?
If you have any information that could be helpful in this case, please contact the Long Beach Police Dept. at once.
