(Nov. 25, 2006) -- On a motion by County Supervisor Don Knabe, the L.A. County Board of Supervisors voted at its Nov. 21 meeting to send a letter to CA Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, informing him that the Board supports the Judicial Council's recommended inclusion of a new Long Beach Court in the state's FY 07-08 budget.
The Supervisors' resolution noted that in August 2006, the state's Judicial Council recommended a funding request for submission to the CA Dept. of Finance to fund nine new courthouse projects...including the proposed new LB court.
The Supervisors' resolution says the existing LB facility "is a busy criminal court requiring the daily movement of hundreds of in-custody defendants within hallways also used by judges and staff and its holding cells were not designed to accommodate the number of in-custody defendants brought to the court each day."
It added that the "much needed project will include 34 courtrooms to support the current 27 Judicial positions and needed potential growth."
