(November 5, 2006, initial post) -- Five people were injured on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 5) at the AMA SuperMoto "Duel at the Docks" at the Queen Mary when a rider hit a hay bale, went off course...and the motocycle flipped up and struck two spectators and an event staff person (flagger). Another motorcycle rider was also involved in the crash.
LBFD Public Information Officer Will Nash says the accident took place shorty before 4:00 p.m...and LB Fire Dept. units staged at the event were on scene withn one minute.
"With the number of patients involved, fire crews went into MCI (Multiple Casualty Incident) mode, and patients were quickly triaged, treated and transported without delay," PIO Nash said
The first rider was transported to a hospital with chest and back iunjuries. The flagger was transported to the hospital wiht a head injury.
The rider was reported in moderate condition. The flagger was listed in serious condition.
The spectators and the other rider were treated on scene with minor injuries and declined transportation to the hospital.
