In its release, LBPD states:

[LBPD release text] On November 21, 2014, Long Beach Police were dispatched to the 2300 block of Eucalyptus Avenue to assist in locating a missing female juvenile. During the investigation, an officer involved shooting occurred which resulted in the death of a male adult.

The preliminary investigation revealed that after making contact with the calling party, the officer determined the missing juvenile was inside the residence with a male adult subject with whom she had a prior relationship. The officer also learned there was a valid restraining order on file prohibiting the male from having contact with the juvenile and there was a history of multiple domestic violence cases on file involving the two subjects.

A verbal argument ensued among the involved parties and the male adult [allegedly] armed himself with a knife. Fearing for the safety of the parties, the officer discharged his weapon, striking the suspect.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded and pronounced the suspect deceased at the scene. A knife was recovered at the scene.

Identification of the suspect will be made by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office is conducting an independent investigation of the shooting, as they do with all officer involved shootings that occur in Los Angeles County that result in injury or death.

The Long Beach Homicide Detail investigates all officer involved shootings. Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact Long Beach Police Homicide Detectives Todd Johnson and Shea Robertson at (562) 570-7244.
