Long Beach City Prosecutor Haubert Says Sentenced State Senator Walking On Felony Jail Time Shows Dysfunctional Corrections System: "New Norm In L.A. County Is 90-Day Sentence Doesn't Even Mean 90 Minutes...And It's Happening For Criminals Convicted of Vehicular Manslaughter, Vandalism, Battery, Theft And Other Misdemeanors"

Haubert says people have a right to be outraged...and next L.A. County Sheriff, Jim McDonnell, has a big job ahead

(Nov. 1, 2014) -- LBREPORT.com invited comment from Long Beach City Prosecutor Doug Haubert, whose office prosecutes misdemeanors in Long Beach, after former LB-area State Senator Roderick Wright was released minutes after booking to begin a 90 day jail sentence for felonies involving voter fraud and perjury (LBREPORT.com coverage here.).

City Prosecutor Haubert emailed:

[City Prosecutor Haubert] Sen. Wright was released just 34 minutes after he was booked. While this may shock some people I am not surprised.

This is an illustration of how dysfunctional our corrections system has become.

I don't believe Sen. Wright received preferential treatment. This is the new norm in L.A. County. A 90-day sentence doesn't even mean 90 minutes.

The same thing is happening to criminals convicted of vehicular manslaughter, vandalism, battery, theft, and other misdemeanors.

People have a right to be outraged.

As our next Sheriff, Jim McDonnell has a big job ahead of him.
