(Nov. 23, 2015) -- Possibly of Long Beach interest: the City of Huntington Beach has scheduled a "Coyote Town Hall Meeting" on Monday night, Nov. 23, from 6-9 p.m. at First Christian Church, 1207 Main Street, Huntington Beach.

Invited speakers include representatives of the CA Dept. of Fish & Wildlife, OC Animal Care, HBPD and Animal Pest Management Services. The latter is a private firm whose website (animalpest.com indicates it offers "unique coyote control programs have proven over 95% successful in resolving coyote issues in a variety of sites including homeowner associations, municipalities, schools, government facilities, military bases, water districts, and private properties."

A member of Coyote Watch Long Beach reports these recent sightings:

  • Nov. 17: Los Altos: 1800 block Knoxville (near Atherton, east of Palo Verde) Coyote spotted, headed north.

  • Nov. 16: California Heights, approx. 3:00 p.m.: Adult coyote running north on California Ave. across Wardlow Rd. toward Bixby Rd.

  • Nov. 13: El Dorado Park [no details on location] approx 10:00 a.m.: "The park was busy with people walking, mothers with strollers, bicycles. The coyote walked right past many people, within 25 feet of a mother with her baby in the stroller. The Ranger was in his Ranger car trying to push the coyote away from the people. The coyote had absolutely no fear of people. It is not afraid at all..."

  • Nov. 13: Naples Island, 6:15 a.m.: Two coyotes spotted on Sicilian walk and Lido Lane

  • Nov. 13: North Signal Hill (area Lemon Ave./33rd St), noon hour: Large coyote in resident's backyard.
