(Nov. 24, 2015, updated Nov. 25) -- Long Beach will have higher than usual high tides on Nov. 26, slightly less than a very high tide Weds. a.m. They're colloquially called "King Tides" and are expected to reach roughly 7 feet in the Peninsula/Naples area.

Wednesday's King Tide was the larger of the two King Tides; Thursday's will be a bit lower than Wednesday, but there'll both be higher than usual.

NOAA indicates Wednesday's high tide shouuld arrive at about 8:36 a.m. in the Terminal Island area BUT it may be a bit later in the Naples area. NOAA doesn't have a prediction station for Naples area so we don't have a precise time for that area. The Los Patos highway bridge (Sunset Beach south of Seal Beach) is the next nearest NOAA station southward...and it expects the high tide about an hour later at 9:36 a.m.

In October (after high tides that were higher than normal but not as high as now), LBREPORT.com noted the November King Tides would arrive about a month later...and so they have.

King Tides are periodic, naturally occurring phenomena and produce unusual sights in and around the Naples area as the water level rises higher...and in some areas overtakes beach sand. They occur when the Earth, Moon and Sun line up and maximize the gravitational forces that produce tides. They're not a tsunami; the water gently rises, then gradually recedes.

LB should have an interesting (and free) sight and a teachable moment for kidlets. In early 2014, LBREPORT.com reader Bruce Tennant captured the scenes below.
