(Nov. 16, 2015) -- In a news conference at an Economic Summit in Turkey, President Barack Obama made no mention of Nohemi Gonzalez, believed to be the only American citizen killed in Friday's (Nov. 13) Paris terrorist attacks.

At a November 14 news conference, in response to a question posed by LBREPORT.com, CSULB officials acknowledged that they had not had any contacts from the State Department or the White House after Ms. Gonzalez, a student in CSULB's Design Dept, was killed the night before, having learned about her death through CSULB contacts with another one of its students in Paris. (A CSULB spokesperson added that they didn't know if the Chancellor's office might have received some administration contacts.)

At this morning's (Nov. 16) news conference in Turkey, President Obama told reporters his "first priority" is the safety of the American people, said his administration would be implementing "greater screening" of Syrian immigrants fleeing their country, but said they are themselves the victims of terror and "slamiming the door in their face would be a betrayal of our values."

On October 21, FBI Director James Comey told the House Committee on Homeland Security [which includes Dem Cong. Loretta Sanchez, an announced candidate for U.S. Senate] that his agency currently can't conduct checks on all of the coming influx of 10,000 refugees that the Obama administration wants to allow into the U.S. from Syria.

FBI Director Comey said the FBI can't search the backgrounds of Syrian refugees if they're not already in its database because of suspected previous terrorist activity or other crimes. "We can only query against that which we have collected," in response to Committee questioning. "So if someone has never made a ripple in the pond in Syria in a way that would get their identity or their interest reflected in our database, we can query our database until the cows come home, but there will be nothing show up because we have no record of them."

The Governors of Michigan and Alabama have said they will not accept refugees from Syria over concerns about the safety of their citizens.

In September, President Obama announced that his administration would allow 10,000 Syrian refugees into the U.S., a significantly larger number than the 1,854 refugees that had been allowed thus far during the four-year war Syrian civil war.

A number of Republicans, and a few Democrats, have criticized the adminsitration's action, warning that it could enable ISIS-trained terrorists posing as refugees to enter the country.

When asked during a reporter during Q & A if it was time to change his administration's policies re ISIS, President Obama said there would be an "intesification" of his current policies which he said are "going to work...but is going to take time." Later in the news conference, he said his administration's current policies had reduced terrority held by ISIS and over time, this would reduce its ability to pose as a state and recruit and send foreign fighters abroad, which he said would reduce the type of terrorism seen in Paris.

On Thurs. Nov. 12 -- the day before the Paris terrorist attack for which ISIS has claimed credit -- President Obama stated in an interview that ISIS had been "contained."

[Further details] LBREPORT.com asked the State Dept.'s Public Affairs Office via email if Ms. Gonzalez is the only U.S. citizen to have perished in the Nov. 13 terrorist attacks. State Dept. spokesperson Julia Mason replied via email to LBREPORT.com: "We can confirm that U.S. citizen Nohemi Gonzalez was killed in Paris on November 13. We offer our sincere condolences to her family and friends. Out of respect for privacy for Ms. Gonzalez's family, we have nothing further. We can also confirm that several U.S. citizens were injured in the attacks. We are providing all possible consular assistance. Due to privacy considerations, we have nothing further at this time." [LBREPORT.com adds: Nick Alexander, a crew member for the CA band, "Eagles of Death Metal," was fatally shot but ABC7/KABC and other third party media accounts have indicated he was a UK resident.]
