(Nov. 26, 2015) -- LBREPORT.com thanks reader Bruce Tennant for the VIDEO and photo below showing some King Tide seawater seepage in a seawall in the 6200 block of Bayshore Walk at about 8:15 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning (Nov. 26.)
Mr. Tennant says what he saw today appears to be "exactly the same as last year." [Scroll down for further below.] |
To LBREPORT.com's knowledge, this area on the north side of the peninsula isn't among seawall sections on Naples Island/Treasure Island currently scheduled for future repair. On Thanksgiving afternoon (Nov. 26), 3rd district Councilwoman Suzie Price updated her constituents on Facebook regarding the King Tides over the past few days with the following from LBFD Marine Safety Chief Gonzalo Medina: [Chief Medina] Over the last couple days the City has experienced especially high tides (King Tides), compounded by El Nino above average temperature waters. This phenomenon across our region compelled the National Weather Service to issue a "Coastal Flood Advisory," that will remain in effect until 11:00 AM today 11/26. To date the effects of the King Tides have caused only minor intrusions of sea water onto City sidewalks, roads, and beach parking lots. There is currently no known damage to city or private property and regularly staffed City personnel are standing by to assist if needed. Feel free to contact me with any questions. Councilwoman Price added: "Thanks to our City staff for being out there today!!!"
LBREPORT.com is currently unaware of any other seawall seepage, either in the recently completed first phase of Naples/Treasure Island seawall project or in any any other area(s). If you are aware of this and have photos or video, kindly email us at: mail@lbreport.com. As previously reported by LBREPORT.com, six seawall sections ("phases") are slated for repair on Naples Island/Treasure Island. One of the Naples sections was recently substantially completed; a second is funded but work hasn't yet started...and to our knowledge, there's no ensured Tidelands funding currently in place, and thus no firm planned start or completion dates for the other four Naples Island/Treasure Island seawall repair phases. In June 2015, the Council voted 7-0 to approve a list of Tidelands area projects for funding, allocating a sizable percentage of funds (that could otherwise be allocated to other 2nd and 3rd districts shoreline projects) to rebuild the Belmont Plaza Pool at its original location (demolished for seismic issues.) [On Nov. 2, 2015 LBREPORT.com reiterated a constructive plan we've suggested before that we believe could go a long way toward funding the pool rebuild and interim repairs for the Naples/Treasure island seawalls. at this link. blog comments powered by Disqus Recommend LBREPORT.com to your Facebook friends:
