(Nov. 23, 2016) -- As seen LIVE on LBREPORT.com on Nov. 22, with no Council discussion and no public speakers pro or con; the City Council voted 5-2 (Price and Supernaw dissenting, Mungo and Andrews absent) to approve a City resolution support humanitarian parole (deportation-relief) for Jose Alvarez. Roughly forty years ago, Mr. Alvarez first entered the U.S. illegally, took up residence, recently started a business and in February 2016 was on his way to pick up his son when CSULB police stopped him for a broken headlight, which turned up the man's conviction roughly twenty years earlier on a federal drug offense drawing the attention of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) which swiftly deported him to Mexico..

The Council action followed a Nov. 15 Council vote (5-3, Price, Supernaw, Mungo dissenting, Gonzalez absent) on Nov. 15 to support the action and direct the City Attorney to draft a resolution in support..

Mr. Alvarez is now separated from his family, including his six children who were born in the U.S. and are thus U.S. citizens, one of whom served in the U.S. Marines.
