TFN, LB MTA Blue Line Halted By Strike
(Oct. 14, 2003) -- LB's Blue Line trains are stopped. As of 12:01 a.m. today, the union representing MTA maintenance employees has gone on strike.
The Amalgamated Transit Union, representing 2,000 maintenance employees, directed members to walk off the job after rejecting four MTA contract offers. Leaders of MTA's four other unions, representing bus and train operators and clerks, have said their union members will observe ATU picket lines.
An announcement on MTA's web site states:
Until further notice, the strike action interrupts transit service, beginning Oct. 14, to Metro Bus and Metro Rail customers.
Metrolink, AMTRAK and the region's municipal transit operators are not affected by the walkout.
MTA is urging its customers to make other transit plans. They can call 1-800-COMMUTE for information on service provided by municipal bus operators or log onto www.ridematch.info for rideshare options.
