(Oct. 25, 2005) -- A shooting in the 1000 block of Gaviota Ave. in the early evening Oct. 24 has taken the life of a 27 year old man from Compton.

LBPD says that at approximately 8:10 p.m. it responded to the area regarding a "shots fired" call. Its preliminary investigation indicates an unknown suspect approached a group of subjects standing in an apartment complex courtyard and started to argue with the victim; the suspect produced a hangun, fired his weapon at the victim, striking him in the torso. The suspect fled on foot.

LBFD paramedics transported the victim, identified as Jesus Moreno, 27, of Compton, to a local hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.
