[Editor's note: LBReport.com didn't plan this; it happened in real time; we received the photos and captions below and published them as fast as Mrs. Foster transmitted them.]
(Oct. 11, 2009, initial blitz report, updates to follow) -- First Lady Nancy Foster successfully completed the LB Half Marathon (part of the LB Int'l City Bank Marathon) -- a physical feat she hadn't previously attempted -- to benefit one of her favorite causes: Long Beach BLAST (Better Learning After School Today).
(Long Beach BLAST is [website text] "dedicated to improving after school learning for at-risk children, by providing services that promote academic improvement, character development, and a brighter future." (Further at: www.lbblast.org).
Mrs. Foster ran/fast-walked the 13.1 mile course while [unplanned] transmitting photos and captions to LBReport.com. We began receiving them at about dawn...and we put them online for our readers in Long Beach and beyond as fast as they came in. We present them in a special photo gallery below.
Mrs. Foster also shot video. To view it, click embedded link below:
The race computer indicates Mrs. Foster reached the 10km point (of the 13.1 km course) at 1:51:09 (17:54 min-mile pace)...and crossed the finished line at 4:04:50, an 18:41 minute-mile pace.
[Ed. note: LBReport.com Senior Editor Sharon Katchen, a journalist who completed over twenty Marathons and won Golden Mike Awards for describing them on L.A. radio as she ran some of them] says, "It's very difficult to run and walk a half marathon by itself. To capture and transmit photos that so well communicate the event, complete with captions online, is unbelievable."]
Readers can congratulate and send their best wishes to Mrs. Foster via LBReport.com at: email@example.com.

Mrs. Foster emailed the following after completing the Half Marathon:
Please be sure to mention that this is an accomplishment for me because of past mental problems...I got very emotional at mile 12 realizing the freedom I have with a better quality of mental health. There is always hope for others as well...
There were many people with physical challenges who finished the Marathon. So exciting...some disabilities are hidden within...
Congratulations to everyone who was at the Marathon, fantastic job and the people who donated their time a huge thank you as well!
