March Through Downtown Long Beach In Honor of Domestic Violence Victims

(Oct. 15, 2010, 9:28 p.m.) -- Over two hundred people marched in the 5th Annual Candlelight Walk Against Domestic Violence through downtown Long Beach tonight (Friday OLct. 15).

As Womens Shelter of Long Beach Executive Director TuLynn Smylie, Commander Renaud, Prosecutor Haubert and others read the names of L.A. County and LB victims of domestic violence, participants came to the podium to light candles in the victims' honor.

Carrying their candles and signs, participants dressed in purple or wearing purple ribbons marched from The Promenade and First St. to Ocean Blvd., to Pine Ave. and through the downtown entertainment area.

March sponsors included the Womens Shelter of Long Beach (mission: to eliminate domestic violence through intervention, education and empowerment of the victims) and the LBPD Womens Advisory Group.
