(Oct. 3, 2012) -- A man and a woman (both adults) found themselves targeted by gunfire last night (Tues. Oct. 2) while they sat in a vehicle in front of a residence in the 1200 block of E. 52nd St. (just north of the RR tracks north of Del Amo) and just east of across Orange Ave., across from the Carmelitos housing project.

LBPD Public Information Officer Lisa Massacani says that at about 10:00 p.m., officers responded to a "shots fired" call and the investigation revealed that another vehicle pulled up behind the couple and fired at them.

The man was hit...and transported himself to a hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The woman wasn't hit...but one other vehicle besides the victim's vehicle was hit by gunfire.

What took place is being investigated by LBPD's Gang Detail. LBPD asks anyone with information to contact Detective Pat Lyon at (562) 570-7370. Anonymous tips may be submitted via text or web by visiting www.tipsoft.com.

On map at above, Red X's indicate 2011 and 2012 murders; Blue X's indicate shootings since Aug 2, 2011 (when Mayor/City Mgr. debuted their proposed FY12 budget); Purple X's=shooting with person not hit. Not all non-fatal shootings are shown, only those that come to our attention.
