(Oct. 29, 2015, 9:40 p.m.) -- This Saturday Oct. 31 -- from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. -- is the Historical Society of Long Beach's 20th annual Cemetery Tour. People who were part our city's history from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries -- and are now buried in LB's Municipal and Sunnyside Cemeteries -- are portrayed by professional and volunteer actors. Attired in period clothing and costumes, they speak at their gravesites, providing a historically accurate description of their lives, times and passings in Long Beach.

The event is a chance to travel back in time and learn about the people behind the names on LB streets, parks and neighborhoods.

Among the volunteer actors this year is Councilman Al Austin, who'll portray Marcus Tucker, LB's first African-American judge (who passed away earlier this year.)

The Cemetery Tour, a fundraiser for the non-profit Historical Society of Long Beach, is appropriate for all ages. "Each year's program features a number of stories -- some are individuals who helped shape the city's political past, others are ordinary people whose tales remind us that rich or poor, famed or barely remembered, everyone has a story to tell...There is nothing scary about the presentations or the location."

And to make this year's event especially easy to attend, tickets are available online...so you can print them from home or just bring them on your smart-phone.

Details are at this link.

The Historical Society says on its website: "After purchase, you'll get a confirmation email with a link to your ticket(s). Use the link to download and print your ticket(s) at any time, or just bring the e-mail on your smart phone. With ticket in hand, you'll get scanned right in at the gate."

And you can also purchase tickets at the gate from 8:30 a.m. until noon just inside the main gateway on Willow Street or at the Orange Avenue entrance. The tour takes approximately two hours to complete, and the last presentations are between 2:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Teachable moments, a learning experience...and now digitally friendly. A great way to start Halloween Day...for a good cause Click here for info.
