(Oct. 17, 2016) -- As reported and updated on LBREPORT.com's front page, LBPD deployed its SWAT team and, after hours of patience applied a "flash-bang" round to safely arrest a 6th/Pine robbery suspect in the nearby North Pine Ave. area of Locust Ave./9th-10th St.

LBPD Public Information Officer Marlene Arrona tells LBREPORT.com that the incident began at about 8:49 a.m. when officers were dispatched to a report of a strong-arm robbery to a business in the 600 block of Pine Ave. PIO Arrona says that while enroute, officers learned the male suspect [unclear if adult or juvenile] was armed with a knife and fled on foot; arriving officers observed the suspect enter a building, later determined to be an unoccupied residence.

Police closed Locust Ave. b/w 9th-10th Sts.; SWAT was activated and after lengthy negotiation and announcements to the suspect, SWAT deployed a flash-bang round. LBPD PIO Arrona says SWAT entered the building; the suspect exited and was safely taken into custody with no injuries to the suspect or to officers.

    LBPD's investigation is ongoing.
