(October 7, 2017, 12:55 p.m.) -- Two men were shot -- one is dead, the other wounded -- in a midnight hour shooting today (Sat. Oct. 7) in the area of 56th St./Orange Ave. (8th Council district.)

Preliminary information is sketchy. LBPD Public Information Officer Nancy Pratt says officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of E. 56th St. at roughly 12:05 a.m. in response to the sound of gunfire heard in the area. Officers found two men (adults) had been hit; LBFD pronounced one victim deceased at the scene and transported the other victim to a hospital.

On Aug. 15, a person (gender/age uncertain) was shot and wounded about 1.5 miles due east in the 2600 block of E. 56th St. (also 8th district).

LBPD's investigation of this morning's double-shooting with a homicide is ongoing. We'll update this story with further as we learn it.
