(UPDATED from Oct. 21, 2017, 1:20 p.m. breaking) -- A noon-hour natural gas leak/rupture in a 2" pipe from an oil well in the area of PCH/Loynes released a pressure-propelled vapor cloud in the area of the Cerritos Bahia Marina (behind parking lot of Gaslamp restaurant.)
The incident brought some evacuations (directions to move away) from the clubhouse area of the nearby Belmont Shore Mobile Home Estates along with shelter in place directives for the Mobile Home park's residents at midday Saturday Oct. 21.
LBFD treated what occurred as a major incident, with a sizable response of its own and at one point requested supportive outside resources. LBREPORT.com was on-scene where LBFD Public Information Officer/Firefighter-Paramedic Jake Heflin provided us with an incident summary. [Scroll down for further.] |

PIO Heflin says it looks like the rupture or break was in the connection to an oil well. The company that owns the well/pipe, Termo, was on-scene working with LBFD and there was no explosion or fire.
