(Oct. 15, 2015, 1:45 p.m.) -- LBREPORT.com has learned that Mayor Garcia has spoken to a competitor, LBPost.com, which LB Reform Coalition spokesman Ian Patton says is in the process of arranging some sort of debate on terms that aren't clear to him yet. Below are the terms LBREPORT.com offered. We stand by our offer.
(Oct. 15, 2018, 11:30 a.m., updated 2:55 p.m.) -- Mayor Robert Garcia and City Auditor Laura Doud have failed to respond to an offer -- made twice -- by LBREPORT.com (now beginning our 19th year of providing independent online news in Long Beach) to host/produce/stream online for the public and share with our competitors at no charge a debate on the four Charter Amendments that the two citywide electeds proposed and have endorsed. On Sept. 28 and October 4, LBREPORT.com emailed Mayor Garcia and Auditor Doud (via their non-.gov email addresses) offering them the opportunity debate two representatives of the LB Reform Coalition (which opposes the measures) using the "traditional" debate format (an agreed question, such as "Resolved: Voters should approve Charter Amendments AAA, BBB, CCC, DDD") with pro and con arguments driven by the parties without moderator-spin or interruptions (only a neutral time-keeper.) LBREPORT.com offered to make the debate available on-demand online 24/7 to the public (and to our competitors on a "pooled" basis.) We offered to arrange the debate at a single physical location or at two remote locations, in either video or audio form, as they wish. We didn't discuss the offer with either side prior to making the offer. The Reform Coalition accepted and expressed its readiness to discuss details. Mayor Garcia and City Auditor Doud didn't respond to two emailed invitations. No one in LBREPORT.com's ownership, reporting or editorial decision-making has ties to incumbent Long Beach officials, development interests, advocacy groups or other special interests; or is seeking or receiving benefits of City development-related decisions; or holds a City Hall appointive position; or has contributed sums to political campaigns for Long Beach incumbents or challengers. LBREPORT.com isn't part of an out of town corporate cluster and no one our ownership, editorial or publishing decisionmaking has been part of the governing board of any City government body or other entity on whose policies we report.
