(Sept. 28, 2002) -- As Saturday evening approached, an especially frightening shooting took place on heavily travelled 7th St. between Olive and Lime Avenues today.
Details are sketchy as we post. LBPD says that at 6:40 p.m. in the 700 block of E. 7th St. a victim identified at this point only as a 21 year old white male LB resident was shot five times in the upper torso. He was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.
LBPD says its investigation indicates the victim was walking on the sidewalk when he was approached by a Black male suspect who shot him numerous times. The victim collapsed and the suspect fled on foot.
Police say there is no reason at present to believe the crime was gang related and the motive for the shooting is currently unknown.
Officers established a command post and at early evening were working with witnesses trying to identify the suspect.
