Sept. 4: 23-Yr. Old LB Man Murdered, area Gaviota/Anaheim

(September 5, 2002) -- A 23-year old LB man was shot and fatally wounded in the early evening of Sept. 4 in the area of Gaviota Ave. near Anaheim St. where the 6th and 2d Council districts meet.

At approximately 7:21 p.m., LBPD responded to a call of gunshots in the area and found David Salinas of LB sitting in the driver's seat of a vehicle, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper forso. LBFD paramedics responded, transported Mr. Salinas toa local hospital wherehe died of his injuries.

LBPD says a preliminary investigation revealed a male Hispanic suspect fled from the location on foot, headed west. Officers contained the area and conducted a search using police K-9 units.

A LBReport.com reader emailed us to say he saw what looked like "a dozen patrol cars, streets cordoned off and dozens of officers."

Officers were unable to locate the suspect and LBPD says its detectives do not believe this crime is gang related.

Anyone with information aboutthis crime is asked to call LBPD Homicide Detectives Richard Birdsall or Scott Lasch at (562) 570-7244.
