(Sept. 8, 2003) -- A 16-year old was the victim of a violent armed robbery in the area of 4th and Cherry on Sept. 5 at about 8:00 p.m...then spotted the suspect minutes later and flagged down police who arrested the suspect.
LBPD officer Greg Schirmer tells LBReport.com that Officer J. Lewis was first to respond and learned that a male suspect had approached the young man, hit him in the nose with a closed fist, pushed him to the ground and kicked his head.
While the victim lay injured on the ground, the suspect reached into the victim's pants pocket, removed some money, then fled the scene on foot.
About forty minutes later, the victim and his girlfriend flagged down LBPD Sgt. Beckman and directed his attention to a nearby subject they said was the robbery suspect.
The suspect was detained and a field show-up was conducted at which time the victim positively identified him as the suspect that had robbed him.
LBPD arrested the adult suspect for robbery. He was also charged with possession of marijuana and an outstanding warrant.
