(Sept. 27, 2004) -- Not far from where LB officials were greeting dignitaries at an event welcoming a convention of America's ports, a 32 year-old LB resident was fatally shot in the downtown area of 3d St. and Elm Ave.
LBPD says that at about 7:30 p.m. on Sunday Sept. 26, LB resident Eric Miles, who had attended a gathering in the area, was approached by another male in a parking lot. At least one gunshot was heard; Mr. Miles collapsed, struck at least once in the neck area; LBFD paramedics transported him to a local hospital; he died a short time later.
The crime scene is just blocks from LBPD HQ (currently in the 100 block of LB Blvd.)
The suspect, who is on the loose as we post, was last seen with a handgun before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.
LBPD says a motive for the shooting is presently unknown and their investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information about this crime is urged to contact LBPD Homicide Detectives Scott Lasch or Dan Mendoza at (562) 570-7244.
