Double-Shooting Leaves One Man Dead, 700 Block Lime Ave.

(Sept. 17, 2004) -- A double-shooting just north of LB's East Village area left one man dead on Thursday, Sept. 16.

Two men, both LB residents, were struck by gunfire in the 700 block of Lime Ave. at approximately 10:13 p.m., LBPD says. The two victims, ages 39 and 48, were in front of a residence when an unknown suspect walked up and fired several round at them from a handgun.

LBFD transported both men to a local hospital where the 39 year old victim was pronounced dead a short time later. The other victim sustained an injury described as non-life threatening injury, LBPD says.

The suspect was last seen fleeing south on Lime Ave. and the motive for the shooting is unknown.

The shooting took place not terribly far away from where LB Mayor Beverly O'Neill and officials from cities statewide had gathered for a League of California Cities event.

LBPD asks anyone with information about this double-shooting to contact LBPD Homicide Detectives Mark McGuire or Bill Matsubara at (562) 570-7244.
