Official Budget Doesn't Detail -- But We Do -- Sums That Councilmembers Propose To Run Their Offices in FY 06

    Introduction/Perspective

(September 3, 2005) -- City Hall's officially-released proposed FY 06 budget doesn't detail amounts proposed by individual Councilmembers to run their offices in the coming year.

But LBReport.com found out anyway...and we've listed the sums below.

In LB, there is no independent limit on what Councilmembers can spend to run their offices other than what what they think voters may accept...but money spent on Council offices can't be spent on other things.

As with other City Hall spending, a majority of the Council rules; whether the figures below become part of the adopted budget depends on what the Council does in September when it discusses and votes on the city's FY 06 spending plan.

Amounts proposed by Council offices are not a management function; the proposed sums come from Council offices and are administratively coordinated via the office of Mayor Beverly O'Neill.

We're told the figures below include increases of roughly 10% for life insurance, 5-6% for the "Public Employee Retirement System" (a system separate from "Social Security") and 50% in workers' comp.

In the public interest, we post the figures below. We plan to discuss and comment on these figures subsequently, but for now we let them speak for themselves.
