(Sept. 26, 2005) -- A shooting in the 1200 block of Locust Ave. on Saturday night (Sept. 24) left four LB residents wounded -- one from a direct hit, three from bullet fragments -- with the victims ranging in age from six years to forty years.
LBPD Public Information Officer Israel Ramirez says officers responded at about 10:18 p.m. and found four victims with gunshot-related wounds: an 18 year old hit by gunfire (seriously wounded) and three individuals -- aged 40, 14 and 6 -- hit by fragments/shrapnel and less seriously injured.
Police believe the victims were attending a celebration at a local meeting hall when the 18 year-old standing outside was approached by a male suspect, words were exchanged...and the suspect fired at the 18 year-old, striking him, with fragments flying and injuring the three others. The suspect fled on foot.
LBPD is investigating the crime as possibly gang related.
The only suspect description so far: a male Hispanic roughly 18 years of age or in his early 20s. The victims were all Hispanic.
Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact LBPD.
