(Sept. 7, 2005) -- A shooting took place about half a block north of LB Poly High School today (Sept. 7) at about 12:50 p.m., about twenty minutes after classes let out on the first day of the school year (an abbreviated day session).
Details are sketchy as we post. LBPD says two juveniles were involved (shooter and victim) and are allegedly gang members. LBPD adds that it has the alleged shooter in custody and recovered the weapon. The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to a hospital with injuries described as non-life threatening.
The off-campus, after-school violence didn't disrupt on-campus school activities...but LBUSD says through spokesman Chris Eftychiou that as a "routine precaution at the start of each school year, school district security and the police department have additional staff deployed at or near schools. This will continue for the next several weeks."
